Manage your money online
There are several websites that can help you manage your money online. My two dollars has a good list of websites that can help you do it. But the best website (and the #1 in My two dollars post) is Mint. If you're like me and you have several bank account and several credit cards, Mint is the best place to manage and view them all. Now that Mint has information about your property and loans, there is no need for you to go to any other site.

Watch TV online
Although it does not feel like summer , it is summer on TV, with nothing really good to watch, except for Royal Pains and True Blood. Summer TV has really hit rock bottom with CBS's There Goes the Neighborhood so we are left with watching TV online.

Getting to New York City from New Jersey
The closest NJ Transit train station in New Jersey to Penn Station NY (W. 34th and 7th Ave.) is Secaucus Junction. The train ride takes less than 15 minutes, and trains run regularly--especially during peak hours. Now that Edison Parking opened the Secaucus Junction parking lot, using Secaucus to get to New York City is even more convenient. Check the NJTransit time table for train schedules. (added 08.12.09: NJTransit has started testing the ability to view departure boards at Secaucus Junction with DepartureVision).
The parking lot is located at exit 15X of the NJ Turnpike. Parking is $10 for a full day and $5 after 4 P.M. and on weekends. There are also monthly pass rates, in addition to Giants, Jets and Meadowlands events rates. With these prices, I cannot understand people who drive to NYC through the Lincoln Tunnel.
Plan to park your car at least 15 minutes before the train gets in because to get from the lot to the track, you will have to overcome two NJTransit wonders of the world:
1. The elevator from the street level to the concourse: This elevator can easily win the Guiness book of records for the slowest elevator ever. If you're feeling inpatient, you can always walk down the street-level corridor and take the escalators.
2. The lack of ticket vending machines (NJTransit calls them TVMs): Someone very smart in NJTransit thought that it is a better idea to have most of the TVMs after the ticketing gates and not before them, leaving passengers who want to buy a ticket with one TVM in each side of the ticketing gates.
You can use hopstop to plan your subway adventure once you are in NYC.
Getting back from NY Penn Station to Secaucus Junction is easy. Check the display boards for NJ Transit trains. Every train that has SEC next to it stops at Secaucus Junction. Gate numbers are posted about 10 minutes before the trains' departure times. Secaucus Junction is always the first stop after Penn station. And don't forget to buy your ticket before boarding the train since there is a $5 surcharge for buying tickets on the train. And one more thing: Hold on to your ticket when you exit the train at Secaucus Junction. You will need it to get out of the gates at the train station.
BTW: Secaucus offers great shopping opportunities, and there is a free shuttle to the outlets from the Junction.

Added Aug 27th: The NYC MTA has published some info on taking the train from NY to the Giants and Jets NFL football games in the Meadowlands.
Added Sep. 19th: Connecticut Jets and Giants fans will be able to enjoy direct service to Giants Stadium aboard three trains. Passengers will travel on NJ Transit double-decker trains in a joint effort by Metro-North Railroad, the Connecticut Department of Transportation and NJ Transit to provide trains for fans from Connecticut and Westchester County going to games. Farecast will give you a prediction if the flight price is going to change and therefore whether you should wait before buying tickets. Check farecast often until farecast tells you to buy the ticket.
When farecast tells you that the time is right, go to kayak.com. Although you can do a flight search on farecast, nothing beats kayak's at finding the perfect flight for you. Do a kayak search, and purchase the ticket based on your preferences.
If the price still looks high and you don't need to buy the tickets right away, visit Yapta.com. While Yapta became famous for getting you a refund in case the ticket price that you already purchased went down, the site's best feature is tagging a specific flight (or several flights) that you are interested in, and then having Yapta send you an email if the flight price drops.
While purchasing tickets, you will inevitably come to the question "which seat to choose?" That's where SeatGuru comes into play. SeatGuru helps you find the best seat in the plane based on the airline and type of plane.
You are not done yet. After buying the ticket, you should make sure you have a Yapta alert on the flight you purchased (if you didn't tag the flight to begin with), as most airlines let you cancel your tickets for free for 24 hours from the moment you purchased them. Since prices can go down in this 24 hours period, Yapta can tell you if the price actually did go down, and you can then contact the airlines (if you bought it from them directly) or go online to cancel your tickets and repurchase them for the lower price.
